This packed weekend could be a benchmark of sorts for those seeking a perfect finale to the week, with marathon, rugby, opera, art, music and lots of entertainment at the Muscat Festival

Muscat Festival 2018

When: January 18, 4pm

Where: Al Amerat, Naseem Gardens, and the Oman Automobile Association

Muscat Festival will begin this evening, promising to showcase mesmerising sights, food and entertainment for adults and children alike.

Timings: The gates will be open from 4pm to 11pm on weekdays, and on weekends the festival will be open from 4pm to 12am.

Entry: 200 baisas for adults and 100 baisas for children.

The festival will feature fireworks, open theatre performances, folklore, and bands.

There will also be acrobatic events, educational programmes, contests and recreation programmes for children, cartoon characters, and a large number of food courts for visitors.

 

Al Mouj Muscat Marathon 2018

When: January 18 & 19, 6am

Get ready for the Al Mouj Muscat Marathon 2018.

Al Mouj Muscat MarathonThe opening day, today, will be dedicated to a Kids Run for greater engagement with the next generation of runners. Tomorrow, Friday, will see the established Marathon, Half Marathon and 10km Race complimented by two new categories: A Charity Fun Run and a Marathon Relay open to teams of four to six runners who will each run part of the full 42km course.

The Kids Run will feature three courses: 1km for children born in 2010 and 2011; 2.5km for those born in 2008 and 2009; and 4km for those born 2006 and 2007.

For the 5km Charity Fun Run, an official charity organisation will be identified and announced to allow competitors to run for a cause.

Building on the success of a record field in 2017, the Al Mouj Muscat Marathon will again benefit from the successful partnership of Oman Sail, Muscat Road Runners and continued support of title sponsor Al Mouj Muscat.

La Sonnambula

Extras for ‘La Sonnambula’Completed in 1831, Bellini’s La Sonnambula (The Sleepwalker) is a landmark work in the belcanto repertoire. A lovely sleepwalker Amina is about to be married to Elvino, a rich landowner, but Elvino becomes jealous and discards Amina when she sleepwalks into the room of Conte Rodolfo. However, Elvino is greatly moved when he hears the sleepwalking Amina tenderly sing of her love for him – and the wedding is on again. Marvelously staged by the famous Argentine stage director, Hugo de Ana, the production features singers renowned for exquisite belcanto performances. Lyric soprano Rosa Feola honours ROHM with her debut as Amina. Elvino is sung by award-winning tenor Antonino Siragusa and Nicola Ulivieri, noted for his beautiful bass voice, sings Conte Rodolfo. The orchestra of Fondazione Arena di Verona is conducted by Antonello Allemandi.

Where: Ras Al Hamra Recreation Center – Tennis Club

2018 marks the second edition of the HI-TECH Cup, sponsored by HI-TECH Oman.

Programme includes qualifications on Friday and final rounds on Saturday, with closing ceremony and dinner. The Hi-Tech Tennis Cup is meant to offer maximum playability for the participants as well as a exhibit good tennis matches for all RAHRC tennis fans.

Tunes will be opening its doors for the launch of ‘YAMAHA’ showrooms in two prime locations – Alkhuwair and Ruwi (Rex Road).

The grand openings will boast live performances by international Belarusian Artist Victor Smolski, who is a guitarist, producer, composer, author and educator. Smolksi will perform the best of his repertoire, from rock and jazz guitar to heavy metal classics.

Following through will be a selection of classical, Jazz and Latin music showcasing the different divisions of the showroom.
