If you are looking for a perfect holiday destination closer home, check out Maldives and its scenic delights
The Maldives is a three-hour 50-minute flight away from Muscat, making it the ideal weekend getaway destination. Unrivalled luxury, stunning white-sand coastlines and an amazing underwater world make the Maldives an obvious choice for a relaxing beach getaway. Maldives is made up of thousands of coral islands and is known for its beautiful beaches and extensive reefs. This also means that all Maldivian resorts have their own island, adding to the intimacy and privacy of the trip.
Baros Islands is one such. The property remains one of the easiest to reach from Malé – 25-minute speedboat ride away – opening up avenues ranging from relaxed island living to discovering the rich culture and heritage of one of the world’s most geographically dispersed countries. There are many unique experiences that guests can explore during their stay here, including Naming your own Manta Ray, Black Coral Reef Exploration, Marina life discovery through Scuba Diving and Deep-Sea Diving, Deep Sea Fishing, Malé Island excursion or even an exclusive private cinema screening on a sandbank in the middle of the Indian Ocean.
Name your own Manta Ray
Guests can avail an opportunity to adopt and name a Manta Ray by participating in a survey being conducted by Divers Baros Maldives, the resort’s PADI five-star Gold Palm Dive Centre. In an effort to sustain the rich underwater life, the centre is constantly conducting studies and surveys, including the latest survey to identify the many Manta Rays that can be seen at the various dive sites close to the island. This has resulted in the identifying of new Manta Rays which have been entered into the first scientific database for Manta Rays maintained by the international Manta Matcher Organisation.
Discover the Secret of the ‘Black Coral’ Reef
Enjoy a day-trip on board a traditional Dhoni surrounded by the unforgettable beauty of the scattered isles. Guests can follow an experienced snorkelling guide into the secret underwater world at the ‘Black Coral’ reef. The guide will lead one around the reef wall, which is also home to a stunning variety of coloured marine life.
Satisfy the curiosity and get a taste of Maldivian culture and history in Malé. At approximately 2km long and 1km wide, Malé is the smallest capital city in the world. Concentrated within this densely populated area are the country’s main political, economic, and educational and health institutions. Guests can enjoy a day touring the city’s lively fish market, the Grand Friday Mosque and the Presidential Palace, ending the adventure at the local crafts market for that all-important souvenir shopping.
Big Game Fishing – Deep Sea Fishing
Experience the thrill and excitement of big game fishing as one searches the deep, blue waters for fast, ocean going fish such as Sailfish, Tuna, Marlin, and Wahoo. Professional crew will be around to help guests test their strength and land the catch of their lifetime.
With an elegantly crafted curved prow, a vast single sail, thatched roof and a sarong-clad crew of four, the 19m long vessel ‘Nooma’ is modelled on the traditional Maldivian sailing Dhoni. Embark on a romantic journey at sea for a spot of secret reef snorkelling, sunset sailing or romantic dinner cruises for two.
Divers Baros Maldives
A country of nearly 1,200 tropical islands set in translucent lagoons in the Indian Ocean, the Maldives is renowned for some of the world’s most spectacular underwater diving experiences.
Private Sandbank Cinema
Private Sandbank Cinema is perhaps the most beautiful cinema one has ever been to. On a clear evening, enjoy an exclusive private cinema screening on a sandbank in the middle of the Indian Ocean, while sipping on some bubbly and nibbling on popcorn. The cinema is aimed at creating magical and intimate memories under the stars.
