The Oman Women Summit is being held as a tribute to the Omani Women Day held annually on October 17 in the Sultanate. The decision to designate October 17 as Omani Women Day was taken during a ‘Symposium on Omani Women’ organised in 2009, on the instructions from His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said.
H.H. Sayyidah Rawan Ahmed Al Said will honour the summit as the chief guest. She is the Chairperson of the Executive, Nomination and Remuneration Committee at the National Bank of Oman and Deputy Chairman of Oman Oil. She also holds the position of CEO at Takaful Oman SAOG.
The Oman Women Summit aims to empower women in Oman and help them realise their potential through inspirational talks and insightful discussions. Announcing details of the summit at a press conference, management of Experiment Events said “The Oman Women Summit takes His Majesty’s initiative towards women empowerment and creates a platform at an international level by gathering passionate women under one roof from across the Sultanate including international female speakers who will encourage and inspire Omani women further by sharing their experiences, opportunities and challenges on the theme #Oman4Her”.
The summit will take off with a keynote speech on #Oman4Her.
- The keynote speaker would be National Assembly Kuwait Member of Parliament, Safa Al Hashem.
- Spartan Race Global Brand Ambassador Marwa Al Wadhahi will speak on her experience ‘Going Forward’.
- A TEDx junior speaker Diya Isha will deliberate on ‘The Correlation between Beauty and Truth’.
- Author and humanitarian Arwa Al Wagayan from Kuwait will share her views on the topic ‘In for Charity’.
‘Women in the Mirror’ will be the topic of discussion with panelists Rahma Al Mahrooqi – Deputy Vice Chancellor of Post Graduate Research and Studies SQU, Dr. Nadiya Al Saady – Executive Director, OAPGRC, Shaima Al Aufi – Manager Corporate Communications ORPIC, Prof. Yusra Mouzughi – Vice Chancellor Muscat University and Sayyida Basma Al Said – CEO Whispers of Serenity Clinic.
A second discussion panel with the topic ‘Impression of the Possible’ will feature panelists Anisa Al Raisi – first Omani to ski to the geographic North Pole, Leila Sohrab – First female DJ in Arab world from Bahrain, Lujaina Al Kharusi – CEO and founder at Envago and Dalal Darweesh – a volunteer with Syrian refugees.
Performances by Omani musician Salha Al Busaidi, inspiring motivational videos, discussions, exhibitions and a stand-up comedian will be the other highlights of the gathering.
The ‘by invitation only’ event will be held from 7pm to 10pm at Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre, on 24th October. The hashtag for the summit is #Oman4Her and the event can be followed on all social media platforms. #Oman4Her hashtag signifies that the country stands with its women in support and encouragement.
