Ale Al Zadjali presents his take on ‘the rise and rise of Friends’, as the cast of the series celebrate the 25 th anniversary of their first episode.
‘Friends’ is certainly one of the most polarising shows of all time. I was less than a year old when the first season aired, 25 years ago and I didn’t really become a viewer till a later age. But I never find an episode and not decide to watch another. I’m sure I’ve seen every episode way more than a dozen times by now, and I can’t stop it.
To celebrate the 25 th year they had a global campaign, and it’s honestly incredible to witness the size of this campaign; watching the videos of the Burj Khalifa show and tribute alone left me in awe, plus seeing the younger generation getting introduced to it and loving it, regardless of the unnecessary controversy surrounding it (different times!), has been incredible.
After 25 years, we’re constantly longing for a movie to wrap it all up, but I personally like the constant confusion over what could happen if we get a movie. I think that makes it more exciting.
Then again, I just think that they should have released ‘Smelly Cat’ and made it the number 1 hit it deserved to be!
