Whether apple cider vinegar is good or bad for diarrhoea was the focus of a recent study that overlooked the popularity of apple cider vinegar as a natural remedy for many an ailment. Owing to its acidic nature, apple cider vinegar could cause stomach discomfort or digestive problems if consumed in large amounts in undiluted form. It could also trigger, as well as suppress, diarrhoea. For, researchers have found that while apple cider vinegar has antimicrobial properties that can destroy E. coli bacteria, which can cause food poisoning and many cases of diarrhoea, it could destroy some types of bacteria in the gut that are good for digestion, leading to diarrhoea.

According to Dolby Laboratories chief scientist Poppy Crum, sensors combined with artificial intelligence can reveal whether someone is lying, infatuated, or poised for violence. While eye dilation reveals how hard a brain is working, heat radiating from the skin signals whether one is stressed or is piqued in romance. Micro-expressions and chemicals in breath reveal feelings. Besides, the timing of someone’s speech can also expose whether they are at risk of dementia, diabetes, multiple sclerosis, or bipolar disorder. Brain waves can indicate whether someone’s attention is elsewhere in a room, regardless of the fact their gaze is locked on the person in front of them.

Obesity: A Sign of Poverty

In what comes across as an oxymoron, a study has claimed that obesity is a sign of poverty rather than wealth. The study, which spanned 70 years, found that richer people tend to be slimmer, in comparison to the poor. Researchers analysed health data of 22,500 children at seven years old, 34,873 at 11 years old, and 26,128 at 15 years old, in four groups, from 1946 to 2001. Results showed that poorer children, born several years after the war were both thinner and shorter than children who came from wealthier families, however, things changed in the new millennium. Although poorer children were taller, they had a tendency to be obese and overweight owing to unhealthy food habits.

Two Sodas A Day Could Double Heart Disease Risk

Yes, it is sizzling hot and the humidity level is at an unbearable high. But no, don’t reach for that cold, fizzy soda. There are several healthier alternatives to quench your thirst – filtered water for one. A study, spanning six years, found that people over 45, who excessively drink sugary beverages like sodas, fruit drinks and juices, are more at risk of dying from heart disease. Participants of the study, who consumed around two cans of soda a day, doubled their risk of dying from coronary heart disease, compared to those who took less than an ounce of sugary beverages. According to researchers, there is a ‘flood of sugars’ that is released by sweetened drinks, which must be metabolised in the body.
