Careem launches new service in Muscat in partnership with Marhaba Taxi

Careem, the ride hailing platform with operations in all GCC countries, has announced that its new service in Muscat, in partnership with Marhaba Taxi, operated by Ingenuity Technologies and licensed by the Ministry of Transportation and the Ministry of Tourism, will serve Muscat’s 1.5 million population as well as visitors to the city. Customers will now be able to book the ‘GO+’ car type on the Careem app for an on demand taxi. Careem will handle all components of the service from matching the customer to their ride, to dispatching taxis, to customer service, payment and marketing. The service will be priced in line with general Marhaba Taxi rates, starting at OMR1.25. Careem’s platform provides transparent pricing for customers and Captains (Careem refers to drivers on their platform as ‘captains’).

Six Senses Zighy Bay creates safe play space for girls in Dibba

Six Senses Zighy Bay has been working with the Sakina Bint Al Hussein School in Dibba, Oman to build them a yard that the school can use for social gatherings and activities for their students. The resort levelled and cleared gravel from a 750 square meters area in the school with the objective of creating a safe and functional play area for the girls. The resort also purchased free-moving AstroTurf to cover that constructed area and allow the school to engage the students outdoors in a safe and comfortable way. The project has taken into consideration all health and safety measures for the girls to ensure that they will not slip, trip, or fall and get hurt on loose rubble anymore. The project also raised the height of some of the hazardous manholes in that area which were nearly four feet below ground level.   

Paul Wieser appointed as Executive Chef at Shangri-La  

Chef Paul Wieser joins Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa and Shangri-La Al Husn Resort & Spa as Resort Executive Chef. Prior to this, the German native was based in Myanmar, overseeing culinary for the pre-opening of Melia Yangon. This is Chef Paul’s second stint in Oman. In 2007 he worked as Executive Sous Chef of Shangri-La Al Husn. Under his culinary direction, signature restaurant Sultanah restaurant was recognised as Best International Fine Dining Restaurant title at the Oman Awards. A veteran of luxury hotel brands and culinary schools, Chef Paul will look after gastronomic development of 18 restaurants and bars across the Shangri-La property here. His first major project will be the launch of a brand-new venue, which will be a Southeast Asian casual dining concept coming soon to Al Bandar hotel at Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa.
