Meethaq ‘Little Investor’ programme to train 10,000 more school students

Following on the success of the ‘Little Investor’ financial literacy programme, Meethaq, the pioneer of Islamic banking in Oman from Bank Muscat signed an agreement with Injaz Oman to extend the programme to reach 10,000 more school students across the Sultanate. Targeting school students, the ‘Little Investor’ programme is aimed at developing a healthy savings habit as well as entrepreneurial skills from an early age. Sulaiman Al Harthy, Deputy Chief Executive Officer – Islamic Banking, and Khaula Al Harthy, Chief Executive officer of Injaz Oman, signed the agreement at the bank’s head office. Launched in association with the Ministry of Education and Injaz Oman, the ‘Little Investor’ programme trained over 10,500 students across the Sultanate in the first year of the programme in 2018.

OMRAN’s ‘Discovering Oman’

Oman Tourism Development Company (OMRAN) has partnered with the educational not-for-profit foundation Outward Bound Oman on a unique project that will raise awareness of the Sultanate as a tourist destination in UK, a key source market. Over the past 12 months, Outward Bound Oman and OMRAN have been working closely on a new, two-phase project to create two up-to-date, online educational resources -one specifically about the Sharqiya Sands, and the second that compares Oman and the UK, called ‘Discovering Oman’. The project will create a series of online teaching resources tailored to the UK National Curriculum for use in the classroom to build a long-term understanding of the Sultanate and the Middle East region amongst students in both primary and secondary schools throughout the UK.

Kempinski Hotel Muscat appoints Frederic Krueger 

Kempinski Hotel Muscat has announced the appointment of Frederic Krueger as the Director of Sales and Marketing. He joins the property from his assignment as Director of Sales from Kempinski’s opening projects in Yangon and Singapore. Frederic started his career with Kempinski as a Sales Manager at Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten Kempinski Munich in 2012, moving to Hotel Adlon Kempinski Berlin in 2015 and playing an important role in the restructuring of the commercial team. At Kempinski Hotel Muscat he will further develop the sales, marketing, and public relations team, as well as establish the hotel as the premier luxury lifestyle hotel and event venue in Muscat.

8th Annual Meeting of the Middle-Eastern Association for Cancer Research

The Food Science and Nutrition (FSN) Department at Sultan Qaboos University, in collaboration with the Middle Eastern Association for Cancer Research (MEACR) and College of Medicine of Qatar University, is organising the 8th Annual Meeting of the Middle-Eastern Association for Cancer Research. The MEACR organises an annual meeting in a different Middle Eastern Country, and this year, Oman was solicited to host this important clinical cancer meeting. In brief, the meeting aims to address the basic understanding of cancer, its risk factors, preventive measures, and possible treatments currently available in the world and the Middle Easter Region, including Oman. The expected outcomes for this event are to increase knowledge and awareness in the Omani community about different types of cancer as well as preventive measures.
