ESO supports Turtle Research and Conservation

Must Read

ESO Continues Efforts in Turtle Research and Conservation. The Environment Society of Oman (ESO) has announced the completion of another stage of its Turtle Research and Conservation project on Masirah Island, sponsored by Port of Duqm and Oman Oil Company from 2014 to 2016.

The initiative studied three of the four marine turtle species that nest on Masirah Island – loggerhead, olive Ridley and hawksbill. Masirah Island comprises one of the highest densities of loggerhead turtles in the world. However, research has shown that the nesting habitat of this population is compromised, likely due to human activities including beach driving, beach erosion, fishing activities including boat landing and storage of fishing nets, accidental fishing, recreation/picnics, nest poaching, light pollution (from town, roads, hotel and other sources), ingestion of marine litter and pollution, and encroachment of roads.

Thawani e-payment method

Thawani, the innovative mobile e-payment start-up, offers a safe and simple alternative payment method to cash, credit and debit cards, by implementing banking standard security controls at application level and at datacentre level.

Thawani is also compliant to both Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI-DSS) and Payment Application Data Security Standard (PA-DSS), as well as featuring additional level security protocols.

Among the key features of these security controls is the linking of the user account to the user’s SIM card and Device serial number. This will ensure that the application will not work if the SIM card is removed but the user still can change his sim card through certain process within the APP. Furthermore, all local cards transactions are secured with an additional PIN shared by a One-time-password (OTP) by the local payment gateway.
