On two evenings (February 7 & 8) later this week, the Royal Opera House Muscat will present a unique violin and ballet pas de deux featuring the man whom Yehudi Menuhin called the ‘best and most perfect violinist’ and Svetlana Zakharova, the woman who became Prima Ballerina of the Bolshoi Ballet and a shining Étoile of La Scala, the famous opera house in Milan. They will bring music and movement together in a supreme expression of beauty.
United on stage as they are in life, Vadim Repin and Svetlana Zakharova combine the grace of ballet and the inspiration of the violin with supreme artistry in soul soaring performances. His fingers and her toes create an ethereal pas de deux to rival the mythical performances of Apollo and his muses. Luminaries on the great stages of the world today, both Vadim and Svetlana were child prodigies who performed and won prestigious prizes from an early age.
Repin and Zakharova have chosen a panorama of evocative music ranging from classic to contemporary, from Mozart to John Williams for the Pas De Deux. The programme includes additional talent as two principal male dancers from the Bolshoi, Mikhail Lobukhin and Vyacheslav Lopatin, will dance with Zakharova; and the first violinist, Anton Barakovsky will join Repin in a divertimento for two violins. The music will be played by a very special ensemble: Riccardo Muti’s superb Chamber Orchestra ‘Luigi Cherubini’, which the legendary conductor introduced to the Royal Opera House Muscat in March 2015. For this performance, it is the multi-talented Vadim Repin who will lead Muti’s orchestra, while playing a 1733 violin by Stradivarius. In every way, Pas de Deux for Toes and Fingers is a pure incarnation of excellence.
This magnificent pas de deux for violin and ballet will be held at the Royal Opera House Muscat on Wednesday 7th and Thursday 8th of February 2018 at 7:00 pm. As a special event, on the 6th of February, Zakharova and Repin will participate in ROHM’s ‘Coffee and Dates’ series. Do not miss this wonderful chance to interact with two of the world’s greatest artists. For further information and booking consult the ROHM website: www.rohmuscat.org.om
