Abrar Albalushi started early, at a young age of nine years and has never stopped. She chose to dedicate more time to polish her drawing techniques even while studying. Now, a student of Hail Al Awamir School and budding artist, Abrar shared some of her thoughts about her art and style.
Abrar uses the technique of collage wherein she creates art by sticking various different materials such as photographs and pieces of paper or fabric onto a backing. She likes to use newspapers and mixes them with a few watercolours, sketching and calligraphy.
“My technique is simple. I have learned from the basics and developed on that. Many initially struggle to find their own style but remember that there is no specific technique to drawing or for any type of art. All you have to do is, learn the basics of any art you would love to do and develop on that. Do something that defines you and you will find your own unique style.”
Abrar draws her inspirations from nature and also uses her imagination by relating to emotions like beauty, nobility and truth to make her every artwork unique. She creates what comes to her mind at that very moment puts it into her art. She also feels that her style has evolved with every piece of her art so has her personality.
Abrar has always been supported by her family in her artistic endeavours. They have encouraged her and taught her essential ethics required by an artist. Her mother who is a baker is also artistically inclined as she embroiders and makes ceramic art. Abrar’s brother is an architect who has also helped shape her art.
Abrar also indulges in anime to draw inspiration for caricatures and takes online classes, or watches YouTube videos to master her skills and practice. She has attended a class by a great Omani artist, Dalila Al Harthy when she was 14. At present during the lockdown, Abrar’s focus has been on learning via online classes and trying new things that can help her shaper her art.
“I believe that people can get a sense of art and find their style by being consistent and determined along with some motivation and practice. I have learned from my own mistakes, and it has inspired me to become what I am today. I, therefore, encourage people to spend their time wisely especially during this lockdown as it might help them discover a better version of themselves.”
At present Abrar is concentrating on her studies as well as her art. She tries to understand what people would love and wants to put that in her art so that her artworks look effortless and interactive and people are inspired by her art. She hopes to have her own exhibition someday wherein she would love exhibit her drawings that will recreate depth, beauty, emotion and meaning.
Here’s wishing you all the best for your future Abrar Albalushi!
