When you register for ‘Join the Trials’, you will be able to select a preferred date from those available, as there is a limit to the number of Trial Passengers on each day. Following that, the team will contact you by email, before the Trial, to confirm your registration. On the said day, you will be given a role to play, as if you were a real passenger: you will be given a ‘booking’, with a destination, checked in, processed through immigration and security, and back again. There will, of course, be no actual flights or aircraft involved; the trials team will also provide you with ‘bags’.

The ‘Join the Trials’ campaign, which began with roadshows in prominent locations, including Oman Avenues Mall, Muscat and Qurum City Centers and Muscat Grand Mall, comes on the heels of the last phase of trials, undertaken by the Operational Readiness and Airport Transfer (ORAT) at the new Airport. After successful completion of a series of internal technical, logistical and airport management operations among the internal stakeholders, ORAT has entered the last phase of trials.

In this last stage of ORAT, as part of the end user experience trials, the Oman Airports Management Company (OAMC) has launched its national campaign, ‘Join The Trials’ to attract residents of Oman to join the final stage of the project. This campaign is aimed at reviewing and assessing if real time experience of customers and operations are in line with the requirements. Speaking about conducting the ORAT trials with the public, Saud bin Nasser bin Said Al-Hubaishi, General Manager of Readiness, OAMC, said, “Today, the Muscat International Airport development is the largest project ever undertaken in the history of Oman. We are excited to be part of the journey and introduce the public to what we believe will be the gateway to opportunity.”

The trials will welcome over 17,000 members of Muscat’s community to explore the new Airport and participate in the ORAT customer experience trials. With the involvement of the public, the trials will provide live assessment opportunity for the ORAT team. “Our mission, together with the support of the public, is to bring the best airport experience to life, to make it memorable for locals and expats alike. The trials are part of the vision ‘to be among the top 20 airports in the world by 2020’,” said Pablo Lorenz, Trials Manager of OAMC.

Key stakeholders supporting the public roadshow and ORAT trials include the Ministry of Transport and Communications for investing and managing on infrastructure development project, Public Authority of Civil Aviation – PACA for developing a safe vibrant air hub, Royal Oman Police – ROP for maintaining airport security, and the national carrier Oman Air for making Muscat International Airport their international hub.

The trials are also intended to test all systems and facilities, procedures aAnd personnel under real operational conditions – which allows for a comprehensive analysis and mitigation of potential problems well in advance of the opening day. Once fully operational the new Muscat International Airport will have a capacity to handle 20million passengers annually.
