When it comes to fashion, designer labels are great. They sell the garment; most people are more fascinated by the label on the piece as opposed to the garment itself. Take this from me, I switched my label from a flat, printed and sewn into the inside of the top of the garment from the back, to a plastic, thick and clear label stitched on to at visible points of the pieces.
Ale Al Zadjali is a 24 year-old award-winning fashion designer; he is the brain behind the ‘Esque By Ale’ line of clothing.
However, as great as that is, I have always been a fan of the simplicity of fashion design – I don’t mean it literally, but I am referring to the origins of any fashion enthusiast, which is a thread and needle, and the hopes of a completed garment; which is why I wanted to highlight one of my favourite current TV shows, ‘Pose.’
Now, I’m not delusional.…it’s a TV show, so, essentially, everything we see is constructed by a team of seamsters guided by costume designers, Lou Eyrich and Analucia McGorty (who were also hired for American Horror Story). Every piece we see, whether it’s (fictionally) looted from a museum or simply the result of an all-nighter, creates the perfect garment. This makes them so much more exciting to see; for me, as a viewer, I am tuning in every Monday waiting to see what they are going to wear.
Without a doubt ‘Elektra Abundance’ and ‘Pray Tell’ get best dressed from me because whether she is in a Penthouse or he is on a hospital visit, their looks have me screaming “10’s, 10’s,10’s” across the board! I will also make it my goal to recreate more of his creations and make sure they make their way into my closet.
