Tenth edition of EFG Sailing Arabia

The 2020 ‘EFG Sailing Arabia – the Tour’ officially opened in Salalah in tribute to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said Al Said, God rest his soul. Over 15 days, between 26 January and 8 February, a strong international and local contingent used the prime winter conditions in the Sultanate to push both speed and heart-rates to the max in thrilling close quarter racing in five diverse locations along the coast of Oman. Since it started in 2011, EFG Sailing Arabia – The Tour has attracted some of the biggest names in sailing to experience the prime sailing conditions and beauty of the region. Eight teams, made up of sailors from Oman, France, Switzerland, and Spain raced on board the matched fleet of DIAM24, the same boats used in the Tour de France à la voile.

Huawei named one of Top 10 Most Valuable Brands by Brand Finance

Huawei announced that Brand Finance, a leading brand valuation and strategy consultancy headquartered in the UK, has named Huawei one of the top 10 most valuable brands for the first time ever. In the recently published Brand Finance Global 500 2020 report, Huawei is the third Chinese company on the list with a brand value of US$ 65.084 billion, up 4.5 per cent year-on-year. With 205 companies accounting for 45.4 per cent of the top 500, US is the most represented economy in the ranking with a combined brand value of US$ 320.4 billion. China follows closely with 70 companies, equivalent to 18.9 per cent, and a combined brand value of US$ 133.4 billion. The technology sector continues to draw the most attention as the most valuable sector. Huawei is the sole Chinese tech brand among the top 10 most valuable brands.

Oman Hydrogen Centre

‘Oman Hydrogen Centre’, a competence centre at GUtech (German University of Technology in Oman), is expected to develop and enable Oman’s Competences for the Green Hydrogen Economy. It was formally launched at a ceremony held at the the History of Science Centre at the GUtech, recently. It is a first of its kind centre that will serve as the centre of knowledge in hydrogen technology in Oman and beyond – regionally in the GCC. Green Hydrogen – produced from renewable energies – is of central global importance as a new energy carrier in the changing global energy industry; both as a supplement to and, especially in the long term, successively replacing oil and gas. Oman’s geographical position and geological structure offers the chance to position Oman as a leading global producer and supplier for green hydrogen satisfying the fast growing worldwide demand.
