Sight-Saving Eye Drop
Scientists have developed a novel eye drop that rapidly reduces sight-threatening scarring to the surface of the eye. The surface of the eye or the cornea is, generally, transparent; however, scars resulting from eye infection or trauma make it opaque causing blurred vision and complete blindness in extreme cases. The pre-clinical research demonstrated that within a matter of days the eye drop speeds healing, reduces scarring and improves corneal transparency. The new eye drop consists of a fluid gel loaded with a natural wound-healing protein called Decorin. The Decorin stays on the surface of the eye and form a ‘therapeutic bandage’ that promotes scar-less healing.
ADHD And Autism Inherited
A new study has revealed that younger siblings of children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and autism spectrum disorder (ASD) are far more likely to develop one of those conditions. Experts found the odds of a sibling (born after a child diagnosed with ASD) being detected with the same condition were 30 times higher than that of later-born siblings of non-diagnosed children. The odds of a younger sibling of a child with ASD being diagnosed with ADHD were also 3.7 times higher when compared with siblings of non-diagnosed children. For younger siblings of a child with ADHD, the odds of being diagnosed with the same condition were 13 times higher when compared with siblings of non-diagnosed children.
