Back in Oman after completing his studies in Australia, Tariq Al Riyami, Co-Owner & Managing Director of Gainz Oman, found that healthy food options that were nutritionally rich and tasted delicious were scarce in Oman’s market. So, he decided to come up with his own concept. Being a health fanatic, he combined his knowledge and the modern food options that he came across abroad to set up Gainz Oman – a superfood bar situated in The Links, Muscat Hills, along with his wife Zakiyah, Co-owner and Creative Director.
The Gainz story started out within Tariq’s home as he dabbled with ingredients to create pre-workout and breakfast smoothies. His family and friends raved about his recipes and encouraged him to take his passion seriously. This is when he decided to perfect his recipes to make sure that each smoothie was filling and nutrient dense.
Beating the common belief that making healthy food is time consuming and expensive, Gainz has adopted a quick, grab-and-go concept while ensuring the use of the highest quality ingredients.
“We have introduced a new concept in Oman. Our concept should not be mistaken for a coffee shop or a ‘diet restaurant”
When Gainz first started off, their menu consisted of superfood smoothies. However, they found that many people were reluctant to have a smoothie as a complete meal. Over time, the Omani community grew to seek health-conscious food options, and inspired Gainz to expand its menu to introduce more health-giving food options, fulfilling the Gainz team’s dream of being a one-stop shop healthy café.
Their menu is a combination of different categories – Power Smoothies which are fitness based; Super Smoothies with super benefits; Breakfast Smoothies which contain coffee and are filling; and Smoothie Bowls. Their recently launched menu includes wholesome items such as toasties, buddha bowls, specialty coffees and healthy sweet treats. Each item on the menu has been thoughtfully calculated both in terms of transparency of nutritional information and marrying the nutritional benefits with certain flavour combos, to achieve perfection.
“We don’t use refined sugars. We rely on natural sugars from the fruits and natural sweeteners such as maple, honey and xylitol. We even almond and coconut milk to cater to those who are lactose intolerant and vegan,” he comments.
At Gainz, they strive to transform beloved, yet unhealthy options, such as Salted Caramel Lattes and Milkshakes into superfood enriched healthy alternatives. The aim is to give people a chance to savour healthier versions of food that they typically enjoy. So, what are you waiting for? Head to Gainz Oman, where you’ll find delish and healthy food options galore!
