With bad hair days becoming a rule than an exception, FACES was delighted to get an opportunity to try out Kaya’s ‘Hair Strength Therapy’ at the Kaya Skin Clinic in Muscat City Centre. Aimed at strengthening hair, this therapy was perfect to right several mane issues that we have been facing in recent time. ‘Happy hair’ is what we got after an elaborate session that began with microscopic hair and scalp analysis.
Although Kaya states that ‘happy hair’ is not just for those with severe hair issues, we had our reason to opt for the therapy that is designed specifically to cater to residents in the Gulf region, where hair loss has become a major issue, owing to factors such as excessive exposure to heat, light and humidity, coupled with lifestyle choices, and high-stress levels. Add to these, monthly salon visits for hair colouring; blow dries every other day of the week for an important work meeting or a night out, straightening and other chemical-based hair treatments which trigger hair loss. It is in response to these worrying problems that Kaya Skin Clinic has taken its approach to hair care to the next level with the introduction of what they call ‘Hair Strength Therapies’.
This therapy is aimed at creating awareness among people about the importance of consulting an expert/specialist before the problem aggravates. According to Kaya’s hair expert Dr. Maria Veiga, most people consult a doctor only when they experience severe thinning. Kaya’s new line of hair therapies is an attempt to increase people’s awareness about the fact that an expert hair assessment, early in the day to identify problem areas – be it genetic or lifestyle induced – is key. The hair strength therapies combine topical medication, specialised products and customised treatments like advanced Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy (PRP), Mesotherapy and Hair Cell Activation treatments that have been designed to tackle hair issues at its roots.
It is a thorough process that begins with Microscopic (physical and digital) Hair and Scalp Analysis. During this process, you will be able to see everything the trichologist (hair and scalp specialist) sees on an in-room monitor. Based on the findings, the trichologist will provide a diagnosis and create a treatment plan that is suitable to heal individual hair and scalp concerns (Kaya’s hair strengthening and rejuvenation services can be personalised to the client’s needs and requirements – preventive or curative).
Following our analysis, the doctor prescribed the Hair Cell Activation treatment that included micro-needling (a medical-cosmetic procedure that involves repeatedly puncturing the skin with tiny, sterile needles) of the scalp with an application of artificial/chemical Stem Cell solution. However, before initiating the actual treatment, the scalp is cleaned and disinfected, followed by a ten-minute session on the Accura machine for the anti-microbial effect.
An AnteAGE professional micro-needling solution is applied before and after the micro-needling. During micro-needling, the doctor uses several needles ranging between 0.25 and 3 millimetres long; they are all contained in a handheld device. Also called a roller, the device is rolled along the treatment area, creating small controlled injuries.
Unlike other treatments that target the skin’s surface, the needles used in the rollers extend to the middle layer of the skin. As these micro-injuries heal, the skin produces more collagen and fibres, which also help to strengthen the hair follicles. Instead of Artificial Stem Cells, PRP may also be used.
The actual procedure time can vary based on the treatment area but may take as little as 30 minutes. After the micro-needling is completed, the doctor may apply a soothing balm or serum to the area to alleviate inflammation and discomfort. Following the treatment, the doctor also prescribed vitamins and some dos and don’ts to follow as a long-term measure. The AnteAGE solution is washed after 12 hours and is followed by anti-age home care as per the doctor’s suggestion.
The new line of ‘Hair Strength Therapies fills the big gap between the multitude of hair products and hair transplant, which prevent hair quality from worsening and restoring and sustaining its wellness.
