Ale Al Zadjali presents his take on Hollywood’s latest remake – ‘The Lion King’
Hollywood’s gone remake crazy and I personally don’t mind it. Seeing iconic movies transformed into a bigger, real-life budget has been a thrill. I still am obsessed with the new ‘Aladdin’, I’m looking forward to the new ‘Little Mermaid’ (#YesMyAriel), and just like everyone with a taste level, I’m completely disappointed with the new ‘The Lion King.’
A movie that solely relied on the name value of the movie and Beyoncé as promotion, but felt rather…dubbed.
The biggest problem was that it looked like they shot footage of animals running around and then had emotionless voice actors say their lines over the footage (yes that’s literally what happened, but Disney could have done better).
I do have to say that the biggest letdown has to be Beyoncé. She’s not the lead character, but she certainly got the treatment; being Beyoncé meant that she is the focal point of all the interviews and red carpets. That’s all great till you realise that she lacks emotion in the film. Ironically, the only place she is emotional is on ‘Spirit’, her original song, which was edited so poorly into the movie to give her a chance to try and snatch an Oscar – but it’s certainly no ‘Shallow.’
Still, I’d recommend going to watch the movie simply because of how bad it is; the nostalgia factor and Billy Eichner’s voiceover as Timon.
