As the New Year gets set to unfold its quota of surprises and expectations, take stock of the year gone by...

In with the New

In with the New – yes, but not necessarily out-with-the-old; from all that new that is trending in the year 2019 but still retaining the best of the past years, lets assess the highs and lows that tempered the past and open the gateway of hope for this year.

Over the years, New Year has conditioned us to dust away those cobwebs of procrastination and repaint our dreams with new hues. Whether those thoughts, those resolutions and those plans materialise, or simply get filed away under the ‘later’ list, the New Year does push us to assimilate our thoughts to conspire for a better year.

We are, perhaps, dictated by traditions and guided by the notion that starting something new requires an auspicious date; but the truth is, New Year has held sway over our imaginations since the calendar was first invented. Taking that thought forward, the cover story of this New Year’s issue of FACES takes cues from four top Omanis to present their perspective on the year gone by, while opening the platform for the New Year, with promises of new beginnings.

There is, indeed, an urgency to switch off from the old and start anew on a blank new page – unless one is wary and dismissive of all the hoopla surrounding the day – and this brand new issue of 2019 taps that very urgency. The fascinating features are packed with new trends that are set to flavour the year – from colours and gadgets to foods and diet. New Year does inject a mien of newness that transcends the mundane. So, whether you dismiss it as another day or tread the clichéd out-with-the-old-and-in-with-the-new path, come along for a sneak peek into all that the year promises to unfold in the coming months.

Happy 2019!

December, the Party Time
