After a very successful first edition, Indian School Muscat Alumni (ISMA) is hosting the second edition of its Charity Cricket Tournament on April 5th, at the Al Amerat Oman Cricket Turf Ground. The Tournament features 56 Alumni from Indian School Muscat competing in a series of friendly cricket matches, all for a noble cause.
Through this event, ISMA is raising funds for their KINDLE Initiative, where they provide a platform to fund the education and advancement of children from low-income families. In 2018, the ISMA team gave out tuition fee scholarships to 16 students of ISM who come from low income and deserving families. This year they want to continue the effort and give out even more scholarships to those who need it the most.
Speaking to FACES, Mukund Manohar, President of ISMA said, “The response from the Alumni has been overwhelming for the 2nd edition of our ISMA Cricket Tournament. The goal of giving back to the deserving students and supporting this noble education initiative inspires all the Alumni to pitch in and help out in every way possible. The entire Alumni community has come together with renewed enthusiasm in support for this meritorious cause.”
56 Alumni were selected into various teams in a unique auction held in early March, where captains were given a purse of points and had to bid on various players who were categorised based on their playing skills and experiences. Chethan Mallya from the ISMA Executive committee said the goal of this auction was to bring the alumni together for an exciting process that involved all the players. “The auction brought alumni together, many of who have graduated from ISM in the last 27 years, and opened a dialogue and created new relationships and renewed old ones. It was a great experience to see Alumni come together to give back to a great cause and the tournament will bring together more alumni and their families to cheer on their favourite teams,” he maintained.
The ISMA team promises a lot of fun for everyone attending this tournament that contributes towards making education available to all. This event is open to the general public and is a free for all.
Explaining about the initiative, Mukund said, “ISM is our home and it is our moral duty to take care and give back to our home. We want to ensure that children continue to receive quality education in ISM, irrespective of their economic stature. We started off by seeking to change the conversation on what an Alumni community is capable of, and today we are making our ideas a reality.”
