Life is Cool at Desigual Global Traveller’ collection

Desigual ‘Global Traveller’ collection. GUtech’s Beta Team win Microsoft’s Regional Imagine Cup Competition

In a contest that saw 17 teams comprising 47 students from the Middle East and Africa, GUtech’s Beta Team came victorious, winning Microsoft’s Regional Imagine Cup Competition, held in Beirut recently.

The ‘Beta Team’ won the first prize in the Oman competition to qualify for the regional and will now be in the global final competition to be held in Seattle, USA in July, where more than 50 teams from around the world will participate.

Speaking about the project, Alya Al Shanfari from the Beta Team who participated along with the team members Hana Rasheed and Sultan Mohsin Mohammed Al Subhi, said, “Our project ‘Bee’ is an app that is connected with Beacons technology for retail shops. It aims to provide customers with a unique, smart shopping experience while improving the understanding and the context of the world around the app users.” 

Mall of Oman and Omantel collaboration

Majid Al Futtaim’s Mall of Oman, which will bring to Oman several firsts – the first snow-park, the largest VOX Cinemas and a Little Explorers edutainment centre, among others, has signed an agreement with Omantel to build an onsite, leading-edge voice and data network supporting the largest-ever lifestyle destination under construction in the Sultanate.

When open in 2020, the estimated RO275 million Mall of Oman will feature services including fixed voice and data services, and mobile voice and high speed broadband connectivity for its more than 350 retail and 20 dining outlets across a 137,000sqm leasable space, all delivered via the dedicated Omantel network.

“Omantel’s collaboration with Mall of Oman is part of our pioneering effort to provide optimum connectivity and accessibility for the country’s residents and its growing tourism sector,” said Talal Said Al Mamari, Chief Executive Officer, Omantel.
