Meditation can boost brain health in those with mild cognitive impairment
According to a study, mindfulness meditation can help boost cognitive reserve in adults with Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI). While no treatments exist to help prevent the early onset of Alzheimer’s disease, the research found that those adults with MCI who practised mindfulness meditation showed signs of improved cognition. The target group of adults with MCI between the ages of 55 and 90 was split into two, with one portion attending an 8-week course in mindfulness meditation and yoga, while the other was put on the waiting list for the course. Those who attended the course showed results of reduced stress and improved cognition.
Be optimistic, enjoy better heart health
Taking life’s moments in one’s stride and being optimistic can ensure better heart health, says new research. Based on the knowledge that here’s a significant relationship between psychological factors and heart disease, the meta-analyses found that a person’s hopefulness and positivity for the future was linked with a 35 percent lower risk or heart disease. Owing to the findings, the researcher behind the study also suggests the necessity for pessimism treatment as part of the recuperation process of people who’ve recently suffered a heart attack.
