Summer training camp for Omani junior golfers in Scotland. This summer, thirteen Omani juniors travelled from the Sultanate to the ‘Home of Golf’, St Andrews in Scotland, for a 2-week long summer training camp. The players received intensive coaching at one of the best practice facilities in Scotland and played 9 rounds of golf on a variety of exquisite courses based around the historic links courses of St Andrews. The timing of the summer camp provided the ideal opportunity to prepare the junior teams for their first competitive event of the season which will be played in Egypt in September where Oman will be represented at Under 13, Under 15, Under 18 and Ladies levels. The players selected to represent the Sultanate will be based on their performance during the training camp and their results in two additional qualifying rounds to be played at the end of August.

MGM’s back-to-school activities

Muscat Grand Mall (MGM) is hosting several thrilling events within its premises as part of its back-to-school promotion. Visitors to the mall are encouraged to bring their kids for an array of fun-filled games and activities at Atrium 2 and receive lots of prizes, gifts and more. These include face painting, colouring and block building, a giant dart board, inflatable obstacles, balloon blast, a virtual reality corner and a cotton candy and popcorn corner. Additionally, there will be a magic show conducted by the Museum of Illusions, every day at 7pm. Furthermore, shoppers can avail of fantastic deals from back-to-school related brands, such as Skechers, Go Sport, Crocs, Athlete’s Co., CCC and even Carrefour. Activities will take place from 6pm-9pm on Saturday to Wednesday and 7pm-10pm on Thursday and Friday.

Muscat Bay’s fishermen sheds support Qantab fishing community

Muscat Bay’s fishermen shed initiative, which was introduced in Qantab on November 2018, continues to reap benefits from the ITC. The ten sheds were developed to support 40 fishermen in the village of Qantab, subsequently providing to a community of more than 3,000 people through one of the main industries in the village. Muscat Bay supported in building the sheds, which were then distributed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries. The facilities have helped sustain the livelihood of the local fishermen and the community connected to the fresh seas in the Gulf of Oman. Muscat Bay CEO, Sheikh Hamood bin Sultan Al Hosni said, “The fishermen’s shed was initiated as a means of creating awareness about ensuring sustainable careers within our local communities…”

ROHM’S stunning new season opens

The Royal Opera House Muscat is all set to start a new season, one that has a hundred curtain calls with thirty-eight new productions and two themed Open Houses. There will be seventeen productions at ROHM’s wonderful House of Musical Arts, including programmes specially designed for children and families. A few highlights of the Season’s nine operas include some of the most popular works in the world repertoire, such as Bizet’s Carmen and Puccini’s  La Bohème; some of the funniest like Rossini’s wonderful farce, L’Iganno Felice; some of the most charming like Banevich’s The Story of Kai and Gerda; and, a great historical drama, Donizetti’s Ana Bolena. One of the most remarkable operas is bound to be an original production by the Royal Opera House Muscat of Mozart’s The Magic Flute which is set in Oman.
