Onion and garlic to reduce cancer risk
Onion and garlic could protect against cancer, states a new study, which found evidence that backed allium vegetables in reducing cancer risk. Garlic, onions, leeks, chives, and shallots are classed as allium vegetables. While earlier studies had shown that certain compounds, including flavanols and organosulfur in allium vegetables are bioactive, the new study found that some of them can hinder the development of cancer. The researchers designed a study to capture the impact of allium vegetables on colorectal cancer risk by matching 833 individuals with colorectal cancer with 833 control participants without it. They found significant relationship between the level of allium vegetables that an individual consumes and their risk of colorectal cancer.
Transcendental meditation for PTSD
Researchers have found that practicing transcendental meditation can help reduce or even reverse symptoms of PTSD and depression. Previous studies have shown that meditation practices can have a significant positive effect on mental health; existing research has also found that different types of meditation can help boost a person’s emotional intelligence. The new study indicates that participants who started practicing transcendental meditation saw notable improvements in their symptoms. The researchers worked with students who had PTSD and depression and who agreed to practice transcendental meditation, a type of meditation that involves chanting and focusing on mantras to achieve serenity.
