No summer is complete without holidays pegged onto its long, laborious months. Therefore we have harvested the wide world of the internet to find the right antidote to make it special for you and your family. Regular holidaymakers probably know the best path to follow when planning a holiday with the family, but newer destinations mean newer issues, newer dilemmas… While there is no one set of do’s and don’ts that can be applied across every summer holiday, experience suggests that it is best to follow the established mores to enjoy all the value additions to your holiday.
Here are some guidelines that you should observe to make the most of your summer holiday:
Plan and Organise
Planning and organising is not all about taking the fun out of surprise elements or becoming too fastidious for comfort. We agree that over-planning and going beyond the well-organised requirement can be stifling, but you simply cannot overlook the importance of planning a holiday to make it hassle-free, more so if you are travelling with children. But if you are the gregarious sort and love to leave things to chance, we suggest cutting up your plan to cover only the outline of the holiday and not what goes into it. This means, checking your passports for expiry, ensuring visa to the destination is stamped or arranged for, flight tickets are in order, transportation from the airport to the hotel is booked and the accommodation is sorted. A quick online check of the destination, if it is a new one, will not spoil the fun too; in fact, it will help you get set for the holiday on the right note.
Pack Right
What to pack and not to pack ought to be determined by the weather and cultural dictates of the place on your holiday scanner. Whether it is the beach gear or mall outfit, understand the cultural sentiments of the locals in the destination of your choice while packing clothes. And, again, do not become whimsical and pack clothes for any superfluous reasons. Like too many cooks in the kitchen, too many bags in your travel plan can curtail the fun of moving impromptu to unplanned places in the destination of your choice. But if over-packing is pointless, under-packing can be equally unwise. Of course, you could buy essentials and pick up little things from the local shops, but if you are sticking to a budget you wouldn’t want to add shopping for clothes and essentials into your itinerary.
Do Not Overindulge
Holidays infuse a carefree mien, one that easily spreads to every activity undertaken, eating included. It is easy to indulge your palate and go on binge eating sessions, more so if a breakfast buffet is part of your holiday package. When on holiday it does seem right to check out all the fancy street foods and pack your tummy till it bursts. Unless you have a higher rate of metabolism, all that food will find a way to stick around long after the holidays. Besides, overindulgence of the food kind could cause aches and pains that you wouldn’t want on a holiday.
Relax and Unwind
You are on a holiday. Don’t make it look like any other mundane day. Stop checking those emails and messages from the office. If possible, go on a complete digital detox all through the holiday. You will be astounded by all that your senses will take in and cherish. Go ahead, click those pictures, but don’t fall into temptation and upload them all on your social media to let your friends and followers know how much fun you are having. That can wait until you are back at your hotel or home after the holidays. Besides, remember you have come on a holiday to relax and reconnect with the family/friends you are with. Do not hesitate to throw caution to the wind when it comes to your looks and appearance. Inhibitions are shackling… Make this holiday your raison d’etre to experience life as it was meant to.
