Ale Al Zadjali waxes lyrical about the universal scout’s uniform, which he opines has its fashion moments too
A scout’s uniform is not just a Halloween costume, but an easy go-to for a fashion moment. I never understood the obsession with being a scout for Halloween, but I guess it is mainly because it originated in cultures where being a scout was a casual thing as a child. With my day job, I got the chance to be a scout leader and it has easily become one of my most polarising outfits.
There’s something so incredible about getting up in the morning, putting on the outfit and making sure everything is in place and that the beret is tilted to the right angle. It’s not my usual dishdasha and Mussar; it’s a series of items that have to be proportioned to exact angles and getting them accurately is what makes you know that you are serious about it. Not to mention that I am pretty sure the 8-year-old me is over the moon right now because it was always his dream to be a boy scout.
