When I first met Marvt Bint Youssef Nasser, I was surprised to see the amount of enthusiasm she holds towards anything she does; be it creative, media-related or simply a social cause. Once you start talking to her, you realise she is a hardworking and talented individual who truly dedicates her time, effort and passion for her country and wants to spread positive energy in the community. A well-known social media influencer, she is also a famous Omani actress who has appeared in many dramas and shows.
Tell us about yourself and your work as a media personality.
I was born in Muscat, and Jordan is where I completed my education. I am a proud mother of three children: two girls and one boy. In the media industry, I have gained a great deal of experience working for various events and fashion shows and I am honoured to hold the title of the Minister of Happiness; as an ambassador, in this case, in Oman. I have also been associated with the Omani bride exhibition for two years in a row, followed by the Muscat Festival Ambassador role, not to forget the role of a social media activist.
Define yourself as an individual and what inspired you to work in the social media industry?
I would say that I am an energetic individual who has a passion to dedicate myself towards humanitarian causes. With active participation as a volunteer, I have learned to give back to society. In doing so, I thought of documenting some of the events and featuring them on social media since it is easily available 24 hours. Also, it gave me an opportunity to maintain the trust of others who trusted me to deliver their news through my social media pages, which is a part of my vision to spread happiness in Oman. My work in the media field is not as a result of coincidence but due to my personality and eagerness to document some events and feature them in my social media sites, which have contributed towards my image as an influential personality.
How important is the role of social media in today’s age when it comes to delivering an important message?
The role is paramount, since it has become widespread and easily accessible from anywhere in the world at the comfort of your location. My role is to spread the culture of communication by reaching out to all the segments and categories of everyday lives and events. I find my role is influential since the suggestions and advice I take and give or the material I deliver attracts positive attention. Also, most of my followers on social media are very supportive. I feel there is a possibility to create opportunities for meeting new creative and talented individuals, as well as marketing organisations or events. I tend to use the events and personalities involved in the interviews through my positive narrations. I would define myself as a fun-filled person who can communicate ideas and innovations to the audience.
What kind of posts do you usually feature on your social media?
I usually feature professional projects, along with my participation in local and international events and forums; not to forget the fashion shows and events featuring the famous sites in Oman, which provide me with an opportunity to play the role of a representative on behalf of my country, Oman.
How do you feel about gaining so much popularity and success?
I feel humbled and very happy that the appreciation and love of others have contributed me to gain such popularity in a highly competitive social media industry, where there are so many influencers emerging. Also, it allows me to think in a responsible manner about the future and how I would produce useful content and material. Not to forget the advice I would give to my audience and followers accordingly.
How would you rate fame and success in the order of their priority in your life?
My priorities are my family and the need to understand the fundamentals of life. When I feel a sense of satisfaction, I can experience continuous success through and with them. I always put my family as my priority; it is my source of happiness and true motivation to achieve any form of success.
Tell us about some of your work as the Minister of Happiness in Oman?
I have been working very hard to do my level best to organise national events that foster the welfare and service of a specific cause. My overall efforts are designed to communicate the abilities to fulfill a specific objective and to inform the community about the various collaborations that boost self-confidence. There are also social issues which require highlighting, i.e. the plight of orphan children; in this case, I work closely with organisations who are interested in supporting them in different ways. By contributing in such a way, I ensure that it brings joy to the hearts of those in need. The title of the Minister of Happiness did not suddenly surface, it took a period for that to evolve and the title was given to me by my colleagues.
What challenges and struggles have you experienced so far?
Overall, I have not experienced any struggles or challenges, but there is a time issue which tends to change everything. Also, there is the guilt I feel towards my children when I am unable to dedicate the time they deserve.
