Starfall.com is an educational website for children ranging from preschool until grade three. Although initially started as a free public service to induce early reading capabilities in children, the platform expanded to include language arts and mathematics for preschool, kindergarten, first, second, and third grade.
Starfall’s teaching material highlights three factors – exploration, play, and positive reinforcement. The material is based on research done by experts G. Reid Lyon, from the National Institutes of Health, and Edward J. Kame’enui, from the University of Oregon. Using games and phonics to help children read, the learning environment is effective with young kids, especially special education and home-schooling. It is extensively used in schools to help educate children with special needs and learning difficulties.
The website hosts a ‘Parent-Teacher Centre’ that provides resource materials, guides, lesson plans, and information on how to use the learning platform effectively. Additionally, the resource materials are available in the form of images, mp3 audios and lyrics, picture cards, and practice sheets for children of different classes.
Joining the platform is extremely easy. There are innumerable free resources available on the platform, however, a minimal fee will give you membership access to a vast number of resources in different formats that will benefit your child’s learning experience while sustaining their interest in a fun manner.
