Classic Mint Julep
Ingredients:
- ¼ cup water
- ¼ cup white sugar
- 1 tbsp chopped fresh mint leaves
- 2 cups crushed ice
- ½ cup lemonade
- Fresh mint sprigs for garnishing
Method:
- In a saucepan,combine the water, sugar and chopped mint leaves. Stir and bring to a boil.
- Cook it until all the sugar has dissolved; remove from heat and set aside to cool for about an hour. Strain out the mint leaves.
- Fill 2 large glasses with crushed ice and pour half of the lemonade into each glass. Top the glasses with a splash of the sugar syrup and garnish each with a mint sprig.
- Serve!
Ginger Peach Soda
Ingredients:
- ¼ cup sugar
- ½tbsp minced fresh ginger
- 1 ripe peach – pitted and thinly sliced
- ½ litre seltzer
- 4 fresh mint leaves for garnish
Method:
- Place a saucepan over medium heat, add half a cup of water, sugar and ginger and bring to a gentle simmer. Keep stirring until the sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and keep it covered for about 30 minutes.
- Take a medium bowl and pour the syrup through a fine-mesh sieve. Press the minced ginger against the sieve with the back of a spoon to get all the flavours into the bowl. Refrigerate the syrup until well chilled.
- To serve, place the peach slices in two tall glasses and lightly press them with the back of a spoon to release their juice. Pour the chilled syrup evenly over peaches and top it with ice cubes and seltzer. Stir to mix the syrup, peach juice and seltzer evenly. Garnish with mint leaves
Watermelon Mocktail
Ingredients:
- 1 small watermelon – deseeded and cut into chunks
- ¼ cup fresh lime juice
- 2 tsp agave syrup or honey
- ¼ cup sparkling water
Method:
- In a blender, mix enough watermelon chunks to get two cups of watermelon puree. Add lime juice and agave and blend again.
- Pour the mixture into two cups and top it with sparkling water.
