Ale Al Zadjali presents his take on the recently concluded Met Gala extravaganza
I wouldn’t be a fashion columnist if I didn’t talk about the most important fashion event, now would I? The Met Gala – the time for celebrities to shine and for Ale to put up the ‘busy’ sign at work, so he can properly process the looks.
This year’s theme was CAMP, which was essentially exaggerated, over the top, attention seeking and theatrical; and while (shockingly) many didn’t stick to the theme, I want to dedicate this piece to those who did.
I wouldn’t be Ale if I didn’t talk about Lady Gaga, right? I have to! She embodied the theme ever so perfectly. She gave us camp looks, but most importantly her entire walk on the carpet was a literal performance, which was well worth being the talk of the fashion world.
Kacey Musgraves was a literal Barbie, Jared Leto brought in a replica of his head, Violet Chachki was a glove, Katy Perry was a chandelier turned hamburger, Ezra Miller was an eye sore in a complimentary way and Celine Dion was living her best Cher fantasy.
It was hard to not stare at them and every detail of their looks because they were so well done, but Zendaya took second place to Gaga for me, as she also had a performance with a light up Cinderella gown. I need to have a special mention for Kim Kardashian who wasn’t camp but looked simply…iconic.
