Thrilling News from ROHM for Tango Fans

Tango fans and everyone who enjoys dramatic dance performances will be thrilled to hear that the Royal Opera House Muscat is bringing Tango back to town.

The acclaimed Argentinian tenor Fabio Armiliato will dazzle the audience as he sings to the music of the renowned tango pianist and arranger, Fabrizio Mocata, on Saturday March 3rd, 2018 at 7:30 pm.

Recital CanTANGO

The tenor and pianist found a winning formula when they combined classic Italian belcanto with tango to create of a new kind of theatre called Recital CanTANGO. They were inspired by Tango Cancion, an early twentieth-century form of music made famous by two great Tango interpreters: Italian tenor, Tito Schipa, and Carlos Gardel, a French-Agrentinian star who Played a prominent historical role in the development of the dance.

As singers, actors, and composers, Schipa and Gardel expressed the commonalities between opera and tango in a voice technique based on recitar cantando, a form of recited singing similar to that characteristic of the dramas of ancient Greece. The recitation in Recital CanTANGO will be delivered by Natalia Bolani, a wonderful Uruguayan actor who narrates an intriguing story that takes the audience on a journey back to the beginning of the twentieth century and the birth of the dance form in Rio de la Plata in Argentina and Uruguay. Although opera and tango may appear to be from distant worlds, they are seen as sharing  important roots in the melodic expressiveness of belcanto.

With traditional instrumental accompaniment, video projection and animation, the  innovative choreography of Los Guardiola is performed in the fabulous Guardiola ‘Tango Teatro’ style.
