The unicorn craze has taken an admirable leap into being at the forefront of trends in 2018 and fashion was certainly influenced. Unicorn outfits may have been cute at basically every kids section in any shop, at any mall, but it was the iridescent, holographic fabric that took the world by storm. You couldn’t avoid it if you tried and seeing it scattered across Claire’s was the norm, but by December what I loved seeing was how this fabric was used in fashion and TV because that gave me LIFE.
Gucci, Balmain, Cavalli, Moschino, Maison Margiela and more had it go down the runway in London, Paris and Milan but that wasn’t as impressive as it was to see it in real life.
It started in April when Beyonce took the stage at Coachella and wore THE boots and found a way back into my heart (not ears because her new music is still terrible.) Then it was in August when Kareena Kapoor closed Lakme Fashion Week and while my admiration of looks in that fabric only grew stronger it truly peaked in November when the cast of RPDR’s All Stars 4 was announced and the entire theme was holographic and I got to take a look at how 10 people interpreted the theme and analysed how amazingly some of the contestants like Trinity Taylor, Naomi Smalls and Valentina executed it.
I went for a holographic look on December 31st and I can’t wait to see if 2019’s top trend is just as exciting, but until then…. HAPPY NEW YEAR!
