Oman Surfers will host its first surfing competition in the Sultanate this weekend (August 11), providing young surfers a platform to demonstrate their wave riding skills. The competition will take place in Ras Al Hadd, on Saturday from 7:30am.
The event, organised by the Oman Surf School founder Nasser Al Ghadani, will showcase the best of local talents from around the Ras Al Hadd area, in a heat by heat format. The event will conclude with the presentation of certificates, medals, t-shirts and prizes donated by Nasser and others of the dedicated group of surfers living in the Sultanate and around the GCC.
Oman Surfers is a group of local Omanis and expats who regularly surf the beaches all along the coastline of Oman, from Muscat in the winter, down to Aseelah in the summer. The group hopes that this first of its kind competition in Oman will have wider impact in getting surfing recognised in the country, first by the Ministry of Sports and later by the international surfing community.
The event is open to all to witness and Oman surfers will be on hand to give attendees a surf lesson and an introduction to the exciting sport of surfing.
