Classic glamour is very much in vogue, observes Ale Al Zadjali, following the show of glitz and style at the recent Cannes Film Festival
Cannes 2017 gave me the regal, princess red carpet impressions that I have been longing for. No doubt that stars with huge personalities like Rihanna didn’t hold back (oh, at all) when it came to making her gowns fit her style…but we got to see many other celebs keep it simple.
Uma Thurman in Atelier Versace must have been the first look I spotted this year, because it’s the epitome of royal. It was carried off in such a spectacular tone of pink that it blend into her skin. And, while she looked like a queen, we got to see Bella be a modern day princess in her Gauthier pink number.
Another red carpet stand out was definitely Aishwarya Rai Bachchans who showed real versatility with her looks from the adventurous Yanina number to the Cinco number, fit for a queen! She even wore red on a red carpet and turned a no-no to a ‘YAS.’
I guess the best trend is that while everything goes (unless it’s Emily Ratajkowski’s black number because that needs to be hidden for all of eternity), classic glamour is still very much in Vogue.
The 70th Cannes Film Festival took place from 17 to 28 May 2017, in Cannes, France. Spanish film director and screenwriter Pedro Almodóvar was the President of the Jury for the festival and Italian actress Monica Bellucci hosted the opening and closing ceremonies. Ismael’s Ghosts, directed by French director Arnaud Desplechin, was the opening film for the festival.
The festival celebrated its 70th anniversary. In late March 2017, the official poster of the festival was revealed featuring Italian actress Claudia Cardinale. The actress responded, “‘I am honoured and proud to be flying the flag for the 70th Festival de Cannes, and delighted with this choice of photo. It’s the image I myself have of the Festival, of an event that illuminates everything around … Happy anniversary!”
The Palme d’Or was awarded to the Swedish film, The Square directed by Ruben Östlund, which also served as the closing night film of the festival.
